American Academy in Rome – Villino Chiaraviglio
New Rare Book Rooms
A new expansion of the American Academy’s library takes place in the reclaimed partial basement of Villino Chiaraviglio, built in 1904 by the family of the same name.
The choice of materials, finishes, and details creates a strong aesthetic and conceptual dialogue with the Villino , the original McKim, Mead & White library and the former Rare Book Room designed by Michael Graves in the main building, offering a contemporary idiom in perfect continuity with that of the academic institution.
